Jeanette Vizguerra—beloved community leader, mother, immigrant rights activist, and longtime Denver resident—has been unjustly detained at the GEO Immigration Detention Center in Aurora since February. Her detention is not just an isolated incident. It is a clear, targeted act of retaliation against a woman who has spent decades organizing, resisting, and protecting others from the violence of deportation.
Jeanette is not just another name in the system—she is one of the most recognized voices for immigrant justice in the country. She has stood up for families, fought back against unjust policies, and lived in sanctuary for over 600 days to avoid deportation and separation from her children. She has made national headlines, inspired thousands, and helped transform Colorado into a stronghold of grassroots resistance. Now, she needs us.
Her recent detention is part of a broader pattern—a pattern that connects the machinery of mass incarceration to mass deportation, and uses private prisons like GEO to profit from the criminalization of Black and Brown people. Jeanette’s voice is powerful, and that’s exactly why she was targeted. This is a politically motivated attempt to silence her and to punish her for daring to speak truth to power.
