Community Shows Up: Recapping the 2026 Colorado Attorney General Forum

On June 11, 2026, the Denver Justice Project, the Denver Task Force for Reimagining Policing & Public Safety, Mi Familia Vota, and Brother Jeff’s Cultural Center welcomed nearly 60 community members to Brother Jeff’s Cultural Center at 2836 Welton Street for the 2026 Colorado Attorney General Candidate Forum. With the June 30 Democratic Primary just weeks away, it was exactly the right moment to bring candidates face-to-face with the people they hope to serve.

Three candidates — David Seligman, Michael Dougherty, and Hetal Doshi — showed up and engaged directly with Denver residents. We are grateful for their participation and their willingness to be in community with us.

But the real stars of the night were the people in the room.

Questions came from high school students thinking about their futures, from mothers navigating a system that too often fails their families, from veterans who have served this country and deserve better, and from formerly incarcerated people who know firsthand what is at stake when the wrong person holds the office of Attorney General. Their questions were sharp, personal, and grounded in lived experience — exactly the kind of engagement that makes democracy work.

The forum covered the issues that matter most to our communities: public safety, civil rights, government accountability, federal overreach, immigration policy, and the Attorney General’s role in protecting the rights of all Coloradans. Spanish interpretation was available throughout the evening to ensure the conversation was truly accessible.

None of this would have been possible without the community partners and organizations that made the night happen. Thank you to Mi Familia Vota, Protecting Ethical Prosecutors, and Brother Jeff’s Cultural Center for helping bring this vision to life. Thank you to Shut Down GEO Aurora and Sanctuary for All for tabling and showing up for the people. And a special thank you to Brother Jeff Fard for livestreaming the forum — if you missed it, the recording is available on our website.

This work matters because the Attorney General’s office matters. It is the office that defends civil rights, protects consumers, holds law enforcement accountable, and takes on the legal battles that shape the daily lives of people across Colorado. Who sits in that seat — and who they answer to — is not a small question.

We believe that elected officials must be accountable to the communities they serve. We believe that every person, regardless of their background or history with the legal system, deserves a voice in who leads this state. And we believe that until everyone is free, we must use every tool at our disposal to take back power and build the world we know is possible.

Thank you to everyone who came out, tuned in, asked questions, and kept showing up. We couldn’t do this work without you. The June 30 primary is coming — make sure you vote.
