Some of the best organizing doesn’t happen in an office building — it happens in the streets. Last night, Denver Justice Project kicked off a benefit concert at the Meadowlark in Denver with a Know Your Rights training, ahead of sets from Elliott Wachs & Commonality and Dunk Maxwell, plus live painting from DJ Bugs Honey. Pay-what-you-can, 21+, with proceeds benefiting the Twin Cities ICE Relief Fund.
About 20 people showed up early for the training. Meeting people where they are, through creative collaborations like this one, is important to how we build power and reach new audiences.
At a moment when ICE is expanding its violent crackdown on our communities, this kind of accessible, community-based education matters more than ever. We facilitated the training and tabled through the night to share resources and help raise funds for our work.
Thank you to Elliott Wachs for organizing this event and making space for education alongside the music, and to Dunk Maxwell and DJ Bugs Honey for bringing their talent to a night rooted in community care and collective protection.
