This past weekend, the DJP team and some of our board members spent two beautiful days tabling at Denver’s annual Cinco de Mayo Festival in Civic Center Park—and it was everything we hoped it would be.

The sun was shining, the food was amazing (yes, we absolutely ate our way through the weekend), and the community showed up strong. The energy was high, the music was flowing, and the pride in our cultures and people was powerful and inspiring.

We were honored to spend time in community with our Latino brothers and sisters, engaging folks in conversations about our work and mission. We handed out bilingual Know Your Rights booklets, shared red cards with legal guidance for interacting with immigration enforcement, and connected with people about the realities we’re all navigating in this current political moment.

While we can’t ignore the fear and injustice facing our immigrant communities—documented or not—there was something deeply healing and motivating about being surrounded by so many grassroots organizations, artists, and everyday people who care and want to make a difference.

We had great conversations, made new friends, signed folks up for our newsletter, and added some incredible new volunteers to our network.

It was a ton of work—but it’s what we love. We find strength and power in showing up for our people, and we’re grateful for every single person who stopped by the table to say hi, ask questions, or just vibe with us.

With summer right around the corner, you’ll definitely be seeing more of DJP out in the community. We’re ready to build, share, and grow with y’all.
